2 Pakistani girls shot dead for making a video of themselves dancing in the rain

Two teenage sisters, 16 year old Noor Basra and 15 year old Noor Sheza (both pictured above) were shot dead at their home in the town of Chilas, in Pakistan after a video showing the two girls laughing and dancing in the rain was circulated via mobile phones. Apparently dancing with your sibling in the rain and filming it is a crime punishable by death in the Northern region of Gilgit. The video caused an outrage in the town and a few days later, five men invaded the girls home and shot them dead - for - wait for it - 'tarnishing their family's name'. Their mother was also shot dead. The girls' step-brother, a man named Khutore, is being accused of arranging their murder because he allegedly wanted to 'restore the family's honour'. The sisters' other brother filed a case against him and the four other alleged accomplices who are now on the run. The police are investigating the case.

Serving Senator Pius Ewherido dies

A serving senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly under the platform of DPP, Pius Ewherido, has passed on. Senator Ewherido died today at the National Hospital in Abuja after suffering a stroke. The late senator was the Vice chairman Senate committee on Marine Transport, and was a member of the committee on Trade and Investment. He was 50. May his soul rest in peace...amen.

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Thompson Oliha dies at 44

Former Super Eagles player, Thompson Oliha, has passed on. The midfielder, who was among the 1994 victorious Super Eagles' squad that won the Nations cup in Tunisia, died today Sunday, June 30 at 4.05 am at the Yusjib industrial medicare hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State, Super Sport reports. Confirming his death in Ilorin, Doctor Yusuf Addulraheem told Super Sport that Oliha was brought to the hospital at the time when there was nothing he could do to resuscitate him. “I feel so sad to confirm to you that Thompson Oliha is dead and by the time his wife brought him here, the body was completely lifeless. His wife Irish Oliha told me that he slumped in the toilet before rushing him to hospital and there was nothing we could do to save him,” Until his death, Oliha was the head coach of the Kwara Football Academy (KFA) in Ilorin, Kwara State. Obama blames Boko Haram on bad governance

Johannesburg - American President Barack Obama has blamed problems with terrorist groups like Boko Haram on bad governance. Obama was speaking during a town hall meeting in Soweto, South Africa, when he noted the terror crisis Nigeria is currently going through due to the Boko Haram insurgency, Channels reports. His advice to curb the spread and activity of these groups hinged on government’s work. “We have to build institutions a lot of what we talked about in terms of responsiveness, governance and democracy. Those things become defence mechanisms against terrorism, they are the most important defence against terrorism” he said. Obama also ruled out military action as a solution in tackling this terrorism.

Mandelas 'cursed' by feuds

Johannesburg - Nelson Mandela "cannot let go" because his spirit is deeply troubled by the feuding in his family, said clan elders this week. According to a Sunday Times newspaper report, this statement was part of a submission during Friday's urgent court application in the High Court in Mthatha to have the remains of three of Mandela’s children - Makgatho, Thembekile and Makaziwe (a daughter who died at nine months) - moved from Mvezo back to Qunu. Mandela clan elders and local chiefs believe that Mandela's prolonged ill health could be attributed to their ancestors being angry at grandson Mandla Mandela's move to rebury the children in 2011. Elders fear that the ancestors could have "cursed" the Mandela family over the actions. "Mandela's soul is not at peace. The ancestors will only be appeased once the remains of the Mandela family are reburied in Qunu. Only then will Tata be released," said one of the local chiefs. Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape High Court in Mthatha on Friday ordered Mandla Mandela to return the remains of Nelson Mandea's children to Qunu.

UK Govt Aborts N750,000 Entry Visa Bond On Nigerians–—Foreign Affairs Ministry Declares

Spokesman for Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ode Ogbole, has disclosed that the United Kingdom has rescinded its decision demanding an entry bond of N750,000 from Nigerians visiting the country. Ogbole confirmed this to Daily Trust on Monday in Abuja through a text message when contacted on the matter. “It’s been rescinded,” Ogbole replied a text message sent to him by the newspaper, but however, declined to give further details when subsequently called. It was also gathered from the report that “a message from the UK government rescinding the plan had been sent to the Presidency.” On Sunday, news went viral in Nigeria on the purported travel cash bond to be demanded from Nigerian seeking visas to the UK as from November 2013.

Nigerians To Pay £3,000 Cash Bond To Visit UK ******* Nigeria, South Africa Now Visa Free

Visitors from Nigeria and other “high risk” countries in Asia and Africa will be forced to pay a £3,000 cash bond before they can enter United Kingdom. From November, a pilot scheme will target visitors from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Ghana who will have to pay the UK government a form of cash guarantee or deposit to deter immigration abuse. They will forfeit the £3,000 if they overstay in Britain and fail to return to their home countries by the time their visa has expired. The controversial move by the UK home secretary, Theresa May, to introduce the Australian-style system reflects her determination to show that the Conservatives are serious about cutting immigration in the UK. Ms May said: “This is the next step in making sure our immigration system is more selective, bringing down net migration from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands, while still welcoming the brightest and the best to Britain.” She added: “In the long run we’re interested in a system of bonds that deters overstaying and recovers costs if a foreign national has used our public services.” The Home Office is targeting countries which have high volumes of visitor visa applications and what it deems to be relatively high levels of fraud and abuse. Meanwhile, Nigeria and South Africa on Tuesday signed an agreement aimed at ending visa acquisition by holders of official and diplomatic passports. Both Presidents, Jacob Zuma and Goodluck Jonathan met in Cape Town, South Africa where various issues were discussed on how to improve on relationship between both countries as they agreed on so many issues aimed at boosting development in the continent. When I first saw learnt about the SA visa waiver, it looked like a welcome development until I learnt that it was for official passport holders(blue passport) and diplomatic passport holders only. No doubt, Nigerians have a tendency to abuse visa flexibility, however the proposed UK immigration reform about to take effect is very unwelcome. There are other ways in my view to ensure selective immigration. Its bad enough that Nigerians pay exorbitantly sums for visa fees already. The government keeps allowing its citizens to be treated like trash by countries who have so much to gain from Nigeria.

Protective ring: Villagers in the remote western highlands of Papua New Guinea say they will not let police talk to the 18 year old rape victim A teenage girl chopped her father’s head clean off with a bush knife after he Molested her in their home in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. Now residents of the village have formed a protective ring around the 18-year-old, refusing to hand her over to the police because they agreed her ‘evil’ father deserved to die. A local church leader, Pastor Lucas Kumi from the village of Rang in the Western Highlands, said theentire community would refuse to allow the girl to be subjected to any official investigation. ‘The people and leaders in our area went and saw the headless body of the father after the girl reported the incident to them and explained why she had killed her father,’ said Pastor Kumi. He told the Post Courier newspaper that the father, in his mid-40s, Molested his daughter when they were alone in their house after the mother and two other children from the family went to visit relatives for the night.The community have also agreed not to conduct any formal burial service for the father.’ Crimes of molestation, murder, suspected witch killings and prostitution are rife throughout Papua New Guinea and as a desperate attempt to stop the lawlessness the government recently re-introduced the death penalty for serious offences. But at the weekend the Post Courier reported the results of an investigation into child prostitution, a report, it said, that will ‘make you cringe.’ Children aged between 13 and 16, said the paper,were selling sex in the nightclubs of the capital, Port Moresby, five premises being reported to be engaged in the under-age prostitution trade. Three non-government organisations have produced a report based on interviews with no less than 175 child sex workers. ‘It’s true – our girls, and especial school girls, are being bought and sold for sex,’ said one of the investigators.

A member of an organised robbery gang made up of a woman, her brother and three others  has expressed regrets becoming a thief saying he had planned to become a police officer. “My role in the gang is to push the victim out of our vehicle but I am always careful so that he will not fall and hit his head against a stone or hard object,” Emmanuel Ochi, also known as General said. “I am a student of Olabisi Olabanjo University, Ogun State and I am in 300 level studying Crime Investigation. I intended to enlist in Nigeria Police Force when I graduate. I want to become a police detective. “It is God that will decide. If I regain my freedom I will stand a chance. Even if I am jailed, I may get state pardon. Everything depends on God.” 28-year-old Anita Ekechukwu who was arrested with her brother, Sunday Ekechukwu said she became thief because she was unemployed, adding that it was better than prostitution and her brother had introduced her to it. “I am a member of the gang but we do not operate with gun. I am from Owerri, in Imo State. I am unemployed but I live at Lekki with my elder brother, Sunday, who is a building contractor,” she said. “I joined the gang because I could not secure any reasonable employment. “I joined the gang this year and I was given the telephone number of a bureau de change operator. I told him I wanted to buy $30,000. The next day, he sent his brothers who brought the dollars. I then told the man that we were going to a bank where I would pay him the naira equivalent. On the way to the bank, we collected the money from the man and pushed him out of the vehicle.” The Lagos State Police Command had also arrested Benedict Nwadike, and George Emmanuel, aka Force Man both members of the same gang. PUNCH Metro learnt that the robbers were arrested while trying to rob one Sanusi of $80,000 (N12.8m). The police source said the robbers operated around a bank in Lekki and had boarded their vehicle when policemen intercepted them. He said, “They organised another operation. Already police were aware that the gang was about to operate around the area. The robbers had already abducted their victim, when the police swooped on them and arrested them. The robbers then revealed the location of the others. The police recovered the money collected from the victim.”

FG To Ban Smoking In Nigeria

The Federal Government, on Thursday, said smoking would soon be banned in the country as soon as the Anti-Tobacco Bill before the National Assembly was passed into law. It also disclosed its readiness to convene a Universal Health Coverage to help boost strategies towards improving healthcare delivery. Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, who spoke in Abuja, at a ministerial platform, insisted that the Federal Government could no longer condone smoking. He asked rhetorically: “Why are you smoking? Why are you taking what will kill you? What benefit do you derive from smoking?” Professor Chukwu listed his achievements in office in the last two years to include establishment of National Trauma Centres in the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital and the National Hospital, Abuja; completion of Federal Staff Hospital, Jabi, Abuja; completion of Laboratory and Administrative building of the Nigerian Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), Abuja, and rehabilitation and equipping of several teaching hospitals in the country. The minster disclosed that President Goodluck Jonathan increased funding for polio eradication to N4.7billion and made further commitment of N2.5billion this year with a Presidential Task Force on Polio Eradication constituted to help in the fight against the disease. He said, “today in Nigeria, seven of our teaching hospitals can do kidney transplant. This month, we are expecting International Certification Team on the Elimination of Guinea Worm in Nigeria.”

Conrad Murray consoles Paris Jackson

'Michael would have been devastated'

Los Angeles - Michael Jackson would have been "devastated" by his daughter Paris' alleged suicide attempt. The 15-year-old aspiring actress - whose mother is Debbie Rowe - was taken to hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning after reportedly slashing her wrists at her home in Calabasas, California and Michael's lawyer, Tom Mesereau, says the incident would have been heartbreaking for the late King of Pop. He told RadarOnline: "Michael would have been devastated to learn that Paris had attempted suicide. His children were his entire life, and everything he did was for them. He protected his three children, and kept them away from opportunists. "I'm heartbroken over Paris Jackson's suicide attempt. I'm shocked, and frankly, at a loss for words. Paris is just a wonderful young lady, beautiful, and extremely bright. "She has so much to live for, and to contribute to the world. I hope that she makes a recovery, physically and emotionally." Jackson court case The teenager is reportedly upset that she will be called as a witness in the Jackson family's high-profile court case after they filed a wrongful death lawsuit against concert promoters AEG Live. Michael's mother Katherine Jackson claims the promoters, who were behind the 50-date London residency he was preparing for at the time of his death in June 2009, were negligent in hiring disgraced physician Conrad Murray to supervise the Thriller singer's medical care. Murray was convicted of manslaughter after delivering a lethal dose of Propofol which killed the superstar. A source said: "She's very upset that she will be called as a witness in her father's wrongful death trial, in which she is a plaintiff."

Bobbi Kristina Brown evicted

Los Angeles - Whitney Houston's daughter has been evicted from her apartment in Alpharetta, Georgia. Bobbi Kristina Brown - whose father is singer Bobby Brown - was asked to vacate the building following a series of noise complaints against her from neighbour Joshua Morse and his wife and the aspiring singer was so furious, she left an angry note for them. According to TMZ, the note reads: "Thanks, you are shit at the bottom of our shoe. "Thank You for making a hard year harder. You are a miserable couple and always will be. "You were honored to have us living above you and you couldn't stand such a young beautiful couple far more successful than you ever will be. "I pray your misery doesn't rub off on your innocent little baby (sic)." It is believed Bobbi Kristina was living at the apartment with her on/off boyfriend Nick Gordon. Morse then reported the note to the Alpharetta Police Department to have the incident documented "due to the ongoing issues he has been having with the couple". Morse also told 11alive.com he and his wife filed at least 10 noise complaints "because [Bobbi Kristina] was an absolute nightmare of a neighbour".

The Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria Mr.Steve Evans,  has described the celebrated porting of the comedian Hafiz Oyetoro popularly known as Saka as a mistake, noting that he will return back to Etisalat fold after 90 days. Speaking in Lagos yesterday at a media Roundtable on Mobile Number Portability (MNP) , Evans noted that “We all make mistakes in life” and the decision by Saka to port from Etisalat to a rival network MTN Nigeria was one of such mistakes on the part of the comedian. In what could be regarded as one of the official statement by any high ranking staff of Etisalat since Saka ported over a month ago,  Evans said he is hoping Saka would realise his mistakes and port back at the end of the 90 days grace period given by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for subscribers to port back to any other his original network. The CEO noted that Etisalat was well prepared for the MNP and has built and expanded its network to accommodate over 30 million subscribers which is double its present capacity. He noted that his company has recorded very impressive results since the MNP kicked off on April22. Though he refused to provide the details but said he was satisfied with the report he was getting from his men on the field. Chaos in Anambra State University After Two Students Were Shot Dead By Robbers

Reports reaching PCB from Anambra State University, Igbariam campus has it that two students of the school have been killed by armed robbers who invaded the students lodge last night to dislodge the students of their belongings and in the process shot two dead while many other students were injured. It was gathered that the angry students took to the streets to vent their anger on the school authorities and the State Government blaming lack of security for the deaths of their fellow students. The students who demanded to speak with Governor Peter Obi were later calmed down by the Vice chancellor who addressed them a while ago. Students say they pay N135,000 per session for new students and 107,000 for old students and still don’t have security or even a functioning hospital, plus no light!

CAN wants Buhari Arrested For Reckless Comments

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has called on security agencies to arrest a former Head of State and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change in the 2011 general elections, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) saying he constitutes a security risk. The call, he said, followed comments by Buhari condemning the military operations in the three northern states of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa, where a state of emergency has been declared by the Federal Government. The association, according to a statement by the Special Assistant to the CAN President on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Kenny Ashaka, on Tuesday, also described as unfortunate Buhari’s decision to throw his weight “behind a blood thirsty sect” without considerations for the hundreds of Christians sent to their early graves. He said it was not expected of an ex-head of state. Buhari was said to have accused the Federal Government of double standards in dealing with the issue of Boko Haram, during a radio programme on Liberty FM in Kaduna,. He was said to have questioned the “special treatment” given to the Niger-Delta militants by the Federal Government, while the Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses destroyed by the government. But Oritsejafor, who said Buhari should be arrested and made to account for his reckless statements, described the ex-Nigerian leader as a fanatic with an alleged link with the dreaded sect. The CAN President also noted that it was shocking that Buhari would be indulging in careless statements while all well-meaning Nigerians were praying for the success of the military operations in the three northern states, where members of the Islamic sect had increasingly wreaked havoe. According to him, Buhari as a national leader should have been more concerned about the killings of innocent ones by the sect members and the success of the troops rather than acting as a megaphone for the sect. But in his reaction, the Publicity Secretary of CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, told The PUNCH that CAN, under Oritsejafor, had become more political than religious. He said, “The CAN, under Oritsejafor, is more political than religious; in any clime, religious leaders have always been the moral conscience of the nation in ensuring that the ship of state is not in peril.

FG Bans Boko Haram..Impose 20 Years Jail Term For Members

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday formally proscribed Islamist group BOKO Haram and Ansaru. He has also authorized the gazetting of an order declaring the groups’ activities as illegal and acts of terrorism. By this development, any person associated with the groups can now be prosecuted and sentenced to up to 20 years in prison. This followed the imposition of state of emergency on Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states considered the epicentre of the Islamic insurgents’ activities and the consequent placement of a hefty bounty on Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau by the United States government. According to a statement issued in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the order has been gazetted as the Terrorism (Prevention) (Proscription Order) Notice 2013 affects both Boko Haram (Jamaatu Ahlis-Sunna Liddaawati Wal Jihad) and another group – Jama’atu Ansarul  Muslimina Fi Biladis Sudan. It said that it was approved by President Jonathan pursuant  to section 2 0f the Terrorism Prevention Act, 2011 (As Amended). The statement said that the order officially brings the activities of both groups within the purview of the Terrorism Prevention Act and any persons associated with the two groups can now be legally prosecuted and sentenced to penalties specified in the Act. The proscription order warned the general public that any person “participating in any form of activities involving or concerning the collective intentions of the said groups will be violating the provisions of the Terrorism Prevention Act.” The statement pointed out that Section 5 (1) of the Act prescribes a term of imprisonment of not fewer than 20 years for any person who knowingly, in any manner, directly  or indirectly, solicits or renders support for the commission of an act of terrorism or to a terrorist group. According to it, “For the purposes of subsection (1) of section, “support” includes - (a) incitement to commit a terrorist act through the internet, or any electronic means or through the use of printed materials or through the dissemination of terrorist information; “(b) receipt or provision of material assistance, weapons including biological, chemical or nuclear weapons, explosives, training, transportation, false documentation or identification to terrorists or terrorist groups; “(c) receipt or provision of information or moral assistance, including invitation to adhere to a terrorist or terrorist group; “(d) entering or remaining in a country for the benefit of, or at the direction of or in association with a terrorist group; or “(e) the provision of, or making available, such financial or other related services prohibited under this Act or as may be prescribed by regulations made pursuant to this Act.”

Margaret’s father, grandmother, sisters, brothers and a cousin were on their way to her graduation ceremony, which was to take place on Sunday June 2nd, when the commercial bus they were traveling in crashed. Bollywood Actress Jiah Khan Commits Suicide After Heartbreak

Young actress Jiah Khan allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with police claiming she was heartbroken after a failed relationship with the son of an actor couple which possibly drove her to take the step at her home last night. The body of Jiah, 25, was found hanging at her ‘Sagar Sangeet’ residence in Juhu last night where she lived with her mother and sister who were not present when she ended her life. Preliminary investigation has revealed that she was in a relationship with Suraj, son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab for nearly a year. Jiah was said to be under depression after coming to know of Suraj’s new love interest, who supplied jewellery to the Pancholis. Investigators said the actress took her life due to her strained relationship with Suraj, a student at an acting institute. Suraj and Jiah spoke over telephone a number of times yesterday, with the last call being made at 10.53pm which lasted for two minutes. Soon after, Jiah hanged herself. Post mortem examination revealed the incident took place between 11 pm and 11.30 pm, sources said. “Jiah was said to be very possessive about Suraj. Last night they exchanged text messages on their cell phones. Suraj also sent her a bouquet which she did not accept,” they said.

Church General Oversea Arrested For Alleged Sodomy With 14yr Old Boy in Imo State

The General Overseer of the Jesus Army of Salvation Ministry at Ama-Alim Ngugo community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, Prophet Chukwunonso Okudiover, has been arrested for allegedly practicing sodomy with a 14-year old boy. The suspect, an indigene of Anambra State, narrowly escaped being lynched by some aggrieved youths before the timely intervention of the police. It was learnt that before the arrival of the police, the youths had beaten the suspect to a pulp after the victim, Chimaobi Ejiekwu, a Junior Secondary School pupil, reported the act to his parents. Chimaobi’s brother, Francis Ejiekwu, who spoke yesterday on behalf of the family, told journalists on the day the incident happened, the prophet, who also runs a patent medicine store in the village, invited his younger brother to his shop for medical checkup where he allegedly hypnotized him and had carnal knowledge of him. Francis said: “My brother (victim) went to the barber’s shop to have his cut after he returned from school and the prophet invited him to his shop. When the boy got to the shop, the prophet brought out a liquid substance to rub it on my brother’s chest until the boy became unconscious. “When my brother came back in the evening, he told us of what happened as he complained of severe pains in his ànus. When we accosted the suspect in his church, he confirmed that he practiced sôdomy with my brother.” Francis, however, said that when the youths heard the incident some minutes later, they mobilised to the prophet’s church and burnt all the musical instruments found inside the building. When journalists visited the Iho police station where the prophet is being held, the church’s members were seen making frantic effort to bail him. The traditional ruler of the community, Eze Polycarp Nnaeze Anugu, described the act as a sacrilege. Anugu said: “The offence the prophet committed is an abomination and he will never return to this community. We want the police to investigate the matter to ascertain how many people he had defiled in the past.”
