Police impounds truck-load of Indian hemp
Gusau - The Police in Zamfara have intercepted 4,800 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, popularly known as Indian hemp, at Hayin Alhaji Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Lawal Abdullahi, the command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau on Friday.
Abdullahi said that the police have also arrested six suspects, belonging to a notorious drug peddling syndicate, in connection with the impounded substances.
He said the arrest followed a tip-off, which led to the interception of a Mitsubishi truck with registration number XA 857 TSF loaded with 16 bags of the dried leaves.
Abdullahi said the suspects were aged between 20 years and 45 years.
He said the Police were still investigating the suspects with a view to handing them over to narcotics officials for further investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the state police command has warned local miscreants popularly known as Sara-Suka to desist from the habit of terrorising innocent people.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman Gwary, warned that the police were prepared to stamp out such miscreants in all parts of the state and to ensure security of lives and property.
Gwary said reports showed such miscreants had formed the habit of breaching the peace in parts of the state capital and the command had taken steps to check their excesses.
