NBA's Michael Jordan Marries Ex-Model Over Weekend
Michael Jordan got married over the weekend, with Tiger Woods, Spike Lee and Patrick Ewing among those attending the NBA Hall of Famer's wedding in Palm Beach, Fla.
Jordan married 35-year-old former model Yvette Prieto on Saturday, manager Estee Portnoy told The Associated Press on Sunday. The 50-year-old Jordan owns the Charlotte Bobcats.
Nearly 300 guests were present as they exchanged vows. The reception took place at a private golf club in Jupiter designed by Jack Nicklaus. Jordan owns a home near the course.
Entertainment included DJ MC Lyte, singers K'Jon, Robin Thicke and Grammy Award winner Usher and The Source, an 18-piece band.
The six-time NBA champion and Prieto met five years ago and were engaged last December.
Jordan had three children with former wife Juanita Vanoy. The couple's divorce was finalized in December 2006.
'A performance that will live long in the memory' - Goal.com's World Player of the Week Robert Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski
AGE: 24
POSITION: Striker
PLAYS FOR: Borussia Dortmund
(GOALS SCORED)2 (4)
TIME ON PITCH: 111
PREVIOUS WINS: 0
Borussia Dortmund 4-1 Real Madrid
Fortuna Dusseldorf 1-2 Borussia Dortmund
During the closing stages of Borussia Dortmund’s demolition of Real Madrid on Wednesday, a beleaguered Pepe got close to Robert Lewandowski for the first time all game. “You've scored four goals already," the Portuguese said. “Don’t you think that’s enough?”
It was a fair question. Lewandowski had been simply unplayable in the Champions League semi-final first-leg clash at Signal Iduna Park. The Poland international had opened the scoring by sneaking in behind Pepe to connect with an in-swinging cross from Mario Gotze.
He then put Dortmund 2-1 up with a tremendously instinctive toe-poke before completing his hat-trick with a thumping finish after once again eluding Pepe, this time with the most wonderful footwork. He joined a select group of players to score four goals in a Champions League game – the first to do so in a semi-final - with an emphatic penalty.
Somewhat surprisingly, the 24-year-old forward failed to net in his 20-minute outing against Fortuna Dusseldorf at the weekend, thus ending his 12-game goalscoring streak in the Bundesliga, but there really was nobody else we could have picked for Goal.com's World Player of the Week.
"During what were an extraordinary few days for the Bundesliga, Robert Lewandowski produced one of the most memorable performances in Champions League history," Goal.com Germany's Falko Bloding enthused.
"Dortmund's striker became the first player to score four goals against los Blancos in a European Cup match and if there were doubters who were unsure about his ability to take on the best teams in the world, they have been silenced now.
"Lewandowski proved not only his clinical finishing abilities in the box, he also demonstrated his technical skills: the third goal was truly amazing!
"Big guns Bayern Munich and Manchester United are chasing him and the player wants to move. But you can be sure that his price has only risen after a performance at Signal Iduna Park that will live long in the memory."
Ramos: Madrid must believe in comeback
The defender has urged his team-mates to go all out in their bid to pull off a remarkable turnaround in Europe on Tuesday
Sergio Ramos says Real Madrid must believe in themselves if they are to avenge their 4-1 Champions League first-leg loss to Borussia Dortmund.
Four goals from Robert Lewandowski last Wednesday leaves los Blancos adopting the unfamiliar role of underdog on Tuesday night, but despite the size of the task at hand, the defender believes the tie is not over yet.
"It's complicated for us, but if we want to be in the final we have to defeat the best teams. We have to believe we can get back into it," Ramos said at a press conference.
"We know our fans will support us from the first minute. We know what we have to do and what happened in Dortmund. We want revenge. We have negative thoughts from the first leg and we want to play well tomorrow.
"There is no bigger motivation than playing in a Uefa Champions League final. I've been here for eight years and never played in one. Nothing is more beautiful."
Tuesday's encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu is scheduled to kick off at 20:45CET.

Jim Iyke Scripted? Nollywood Star’s “Fiancée” Keturah Hamilton claims she was acting on the Reality Show
including a shouting match the duo engaged in after the 2012 Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards in Texas.
Over the last few weeks, Jim has been spotted at various events including 2Face & Annie Idibia’s wedding in Dubai and his realiy show launch party with Ghanaian star Nadia Buari leading to speculation that the actors are in a romantic relationship.
Now Keturah is sharing her side of the story via her PR representative, Jenny Garcia of MsMedia Public Relations.
Read the press release below.
Keturah Hamilton, Model, Actress, and Ex-Fiancée of Jim Iyke is ready to tell the real story after the Jim Iyke Unscripted show that was aired on April 17, 2013.
In a world where reality shows are an “In-thing” and bad behavior becomes the A.M. topic to cover, leave it to Jim Iyke Unscripted or better said the “_Scripted_” show to deliver real life drama. The episode that aired on April 17, 2013, did not disappoint the viewers who were glued to their TV’s watching Keturah Hamilton’s role that was none the less excellent! She was really able to bring her character to the next level of entertainment.
Keturah Hamilton had acted out an edgy script of jealousy and rage towards Jim Iyke, that was delivered as well as any actress in Hollywood. Keturah was so good that even her fans were astonished to see how well she acted and was able to challenge Jim on his bad behavior. Boldly, Jim gave Keturah the opportunity to exit the reality show based on the controversial episode. Even though a pre-recorded version of “Kiss and Make-up” was on stand-by to be aired, Keturah already had made her decision.
For the time being, Jim Iyke and Keturah Hamilton are no longer together because in reality, Jim’s bad boy behavior was just too overwhelming for the reality star. Keturah has decided to move on to the bigger and better things that her heart has long been looking to do. She quotes, “I wish Jim well on his show and hope that he matures into the man I always wanted him to be!”
Keturah is currently in a new, reality-based show called “Diamonds in the Rough”. We will see more of Keturah Hamilton on the big screen and on other future projects on the works because as they say, “It’s not over until the fat lady sings!”
So what do you think? It seems like this is all part of the PR plan for the show…it’s working because we are talking about it!

2 Chainz acquitted of drug charge
Easton - Rapper 2 Chainz has been acquitted of drug charges he faced after a traffic stop on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
The Star Democrat newspaper of Easton, Maryland reports that a Talbot County district court judge found the rapper, whose real name is Tauheed Epps, not guilty on Wednesday.
The Atlanta-based rapper was headed to a college homecoming event in February when state troopers stopped the van he was travelling in. Police said they searched the car after smelling burnt marijuana and found a marijuana grinder and marijuana inside a backpack.
2 Chainz was cited for having drug paraphernalia and marijuana after police said he claimed the bag.
A security guard testified that in the rush to leave the group's Baltimore hotel room he had packed the grinder, though he didn't know who owned it.
"I have Been trending for the past two days now. Day one was about people wishing me well and praying for me on my birthday. Day two is now filled with gossip, scandals and all sorts, but that is as far as the so called journalists and bloggers are concerned. As far as I am concerned I had a blast on my birthday and I will not allow other human beings steal my joy regardless.
I choose to enjoy my life because I know I deserve it. Nobody went through my own trying times with me and I did not go through any with others.
When God decides to bless me, turn my mourning to dancing, turn my tears to laughter and turn my anger to happiness, no man on earth can change it or spoil it.
Truth is, I laughed when I saw some of the blogs and websites quoting and saying things they know absolutely nothing about. Writing things they have heard without concrete evidence, ghosts that cannot show their faces and ask direct questions. But they believe and think that they can wake up one day and decide people's fate and destiny. Unfortunately they are made to feel important because people hate to read positive things and achievements, but give them juicy gossip and all of a sudden you become the most popular writer who has gist on everybody.
I realized that when I write blogs and articles about important information, encouragement, education and positive things, only twenty percent out of a hundred actually read it and leave comments. The other eighty percent jump at the gossip and scandals and then start to ask me stupid questions. These are people who have not communicated with me in ages but all of a sudden they feel the need to profess undying friendship and a listening ear. The fact that they believe I have the time or energy to respond to the most trivial issues baffles me.
Let me repeat myself in case some of these people missed it. "I really do not care what you say or write, the truth is who God has blessed no man can curse" , and if you believe that trying to turn a wonderful birthday into a global gossip game will make me feel bad then I am so sorry this Stella is not as stupid as you think"
For those who want to really see pictures to satisfy their curiosity, please enjoy"

Three under investigation over Kate pics
Paris - French prosecutors have placed the publisher and photographer of unauthorised topless snaps of Prince William's wife, Kate, under formal criminal investigation, they said Thursday.
Mondadori Magazines France and local photographer Valerie Suau were placed under investigation earlier this month over possible criminal exploitation of the images, which appeared in the French Closer magazine last September, according to Caroline Chassain, Nanterre prosecutor spokesperson.
Chassain added that Suau's employer, local newspaper La Provence, was also placed under formal criminal investigation on Monday.
'Robust freedom of expression'
The photos showed the Duchess of Cambridge relaxing at a private villa in Provence, in southern France, sometimes without her bikini top and, in one case, her suit bottom partially pulled down to apply sunscreen.
If convicted, Closer magazine could face closure for up to five years; the photographer could face fines and - much less likely - a year in prison. The potential punishment for La Provence was not yet clear.
Though the development, which moves the investigation one step toward a full-blown trial, is likely to please royal officials, it will probably take several months before the investigating judge decides whether or not to fully charge the parties on a possible breach of the Duchess of Cambridge's privacy.
"One factor in the royal couple's advantage is that they won the civil case last September. There is already a privacy decision out there favourable to the Kate and Prince William (...) They have one leg up," said Christopher Mesnooh, an American lawyer working in France for Field Fisher Waterhouse.
"It's a delicate balancing act for the judge to reconcile (press) freedoms with the right to privacy. Yes,
in France there are strong privacy laws, but don't forget it's a country also with robust freedom of expression," said Mesnooh.
'Grotesque'
The blurry photos have been called a "grotesque and totally unjustifiable" abuse of privacy by British royal officials.
Despite efforts by Prince William and Kate to halt their use last September they went on to be published in Italy, Ireland, Sweden and on the internet.
However, no major British publication carried the photos, including Rupert Murdoch's top-selling UK tabloid The Sun, which last year ran photos of a naked Prince Harry cavorting in a Las Vegas hotel room.
The first major press incident involving William and Kate brought back memories of William's mother Diana being hounded by paparazzi in France in the hours and days before her fatal car crash there in 1997.
Pres. Jonathan awards $40m contract to Israeli company to monitor internet communication by Nigerians?
I put the question mark there because this is so hard to believe. President Jonathan wouldn't dare do this, would he? Below is the report from Premium Times
Here is a very important information for the 47 million Nigerian Internet users. Big Brother, in the form of the Jonathan administration, is watching you, and your communication is no longer safe.
It is one of the most far-reaching policies ever designed in Nigeria’s history to invade the privacy of citizens.
The Jonathan administration secretly, and in open violation of lawful contracting procedures, has awarded an Israeli firm, Elbit Systems, with headquarters in Haifa, a $40million contract to help it spy on citizens’ computers and Internet communications under the guise of intelligence gathering and national security.
Elbit announced the contract award Wednesday in a global press release but was silent on the Nigerian destination of the contract. Its general manager, Yehuda Vered, opaquely announced that “Elbit Systems will supply its Wise Intelligence Technology (WiT) system to an unnamed country in Africa under a new $40 million contract announced on 24 April… for Intelligence Analysis and Cyber Defense,” but effusively claimed, in the statement, that his company is “proud to be selected to supply this unique system, which is already field-proven, fully operational and customisable.
“Elbit Systems is a world leader in the fields of intelligence analysis and cyber defense, with proven solutions highly suitable for countries, armies and critical infrastructure sites. We hope that additional customers will follow in selecting our highly advanced and cutting edge systems in these fields as their preferred solution,” Mr. Vered added.
Multiple and very reliable sources in the administration confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that Nigeria is indeed the “unnamed African country,” and with details from the Elbit statement, our sources say the contract will now help the Jonathan administration access all computers and read all email correspondences of citizens in what is clearly, an infringement on constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression.
No single policy of this administration has so far affected, in one fell swoop, the lives of 47 million citizens, a third of the Nigerian population and about four times the number of voters who brought the president to power two years ago.
Nigerian netizens, the horde of active citizens that use the computer and Internet, are the 10th in a global ranking that make them 27 per cent of Africa’s total Internet users, far ahead of Egypt [19th global ranking] and South Africa [37th in global ranking].
The growth path of the Internet in Nigeria has also been dramatic, rising from a mere 200,000 Internet users in 2002 to 47 million this year, according to data from the Global Internet user, one of the Internet audit groups.
This development has not always gladdened public officials in Nigeria many who have expressed open displeasure at the use of the Internet by social media activists and the power of its possibilities as an empowering medium for popular communication. The calls for regulation have been loud in both the administration and in the Nigerian legislature.
The earliest hint that the Jonathan administration had desires to invade privacy of citizens surfaced ealy April when researchers at the Munk School for Global Affairs at the University of Toronto alerted the world that Nigeria, Egypt, and Kenya were deploying Internet surveillance and censorship technology developed by an American company, Blue Coat, which specializes in online security. Blue Coat’s technology will allow the government to invade the privacy of journalists, netizens and their sources. Its censorship devices use Deep Packet Inspection, DPI, a technology employed by
many western Internet Service Providers, to manage network traffic and suppress unwanted connections.
Civic groups kick against DPI because, they say, it makes it possible for censors to look into every single Internet Protocol packet and subject it to special treatment based on content (censored or banned words) or type (email, VoIP or BitTorrent Protocol).
DPI not only threatens the principle of Net Neutrality and the privacy of users, civic groups say, it makes single users identifiable and, in countries that flout the rule of law and violate human rights, often exposes them to arbitrary imprisonment, violence or even torture.
While details of the Blue Coat contract appears to have managed to evade scrutiny up till this point, PREMIUM TIMES sources say the Elbit annunciation of the contract, opaque as it was, terribly rattled top administration officials – from the presidency to the National Security Adviser’s Office, and the National Assembly.
“The presidency had wanted this contract to be a top secret,” said one of our sources. “The presidency did not envisage that Elbit was going to make it public. Monitoring computers and Internet use is a contentious issue and the National Security Adviser had tried to keep the contract secret.”
Elbit says it will take it two years to complete the project, by which time it claimed, the administration will have “a highly advanced end-to-end solution, [to] supports every stage of the intelligence process, including the collection of the data from multiple sources, databases and sensors, processing of the information, supporting intelligence personnel in the analysis and evaluation of the information and disseminating the intelligence to the intended recipient…[that] will be integrated with various data sources, including Elbit Systems’ Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) solution and Elbit Systems’ PC Surveillance Systems (PSS), an advance solution for covert intelligence gathering.”
The administration had indicated in the 2013 budget that it would procure a Wise Intelligence Network Harvest Analyzer System, Open Source Internet Monitoring System and Personal Internet Surveillance System at a cost of N9.496 Billion ($61.26 million).
Now that the contract has been awarded to Elbit for about $40million, it is unclear if the National Assembly will raise questions as to what becomes of the extra $21million earmarked for the project.
Investigations indicate that in awarding the contract to the Israeli firm, no tenders or calls for bids were made just as there were no public announcements. The contract was awarded following a proposal from a single vendor who dictated the contract sum and the terms of the contract.
The procedure for public procurement of services as stipulated by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), the Nigerian agency charged with the duty of ensuring transparency in all matters concerning government contracts, were largely ignored. In addition, there are no public records indicating that the BPP approved this contract.
The manner of award directly contravenes the 2007 Public Procurement Act. While the Act gives room for single source contracts, the Elbit contract met none of the requirements under which such special contracts could be awarded.
Section 47 (3) (iii) of the 2007 Act stipulates that single source contracts are to be awarded in emergency situations such as “natural disasters or a financial crisis”.
Presidential spokespersons, Reuben Abati, and Doyin Okupe were not available for comments Wednesday. They didn’t answer or return calls seeking comments.
Calls to Elbit’s headquarters in Haifa, Israel, were also unanswered.
Shari Clarkson, a spokesperson at the company’s subsidiary in the United States declined comments on the contract saying only Dalia Rosen, a spokesperson based in Israel, could comment. Rosen’s phone was unanswered.

Rhode Island on track to allow gay marriage after Senate vote
Rhode Island senators put their state on the path Wednesday to becoming the 10th state to allow same-sex couples to marry, passing legislation by a comfortable 26-12 margin after nearly two decades of attempts to legalize gay marriage.
The bill passed the House in January and now returns there for a largely procedural vote, likely next week, before going to Gov. Lincoln Chafee, who supports the legislation.
Hundreds of gay marriage supporters erupted into cheers and applause — and many cried — outside the Senate chamber following the vote.
"I think it's actually going to happen," said Michael Sherman, 45, a gay man from Providence who came to the Statehouse for the historic vote. "When you tell someone they can't do something because they're different from you, people see that as just wrong. It shouldn't have taken this long."
15 Real Madrid Players Want Jose Mourinho to Leave Club This Summer
Bernabeu boss suffers player mutiny.
Jose Mourinho is the subject of something of a Bernabeu mutiny according to the AFP, with 15 Real Madrid players stating that they want to see the Portuguese boss axed this summer.
Though Mourinho helped his Spanish giants to a La Liga title last term it appears he has fallen out with a number of his playing staff. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who apparently enjoys a good relationship with the 50 year old manager, carried out an informal poll of the club’s squad to see who backed the former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager.
15 players are said to have stated their desire to see the back of Mourinho, and that collection was said to include five senior players who stated that they had received offers from interested parties and would push for a Real Madrid exit if the ‘Special One’ was still in his post come the summer.
Two of those senior players are thought to be captain Iker Casillas, who has been dropped by Mourinho in recent weeks, and defender Sergio Ramos, both stars having fallen out with the manager some time ago.
Mourinho’s future at Real Madrid may well be in further jeopardy after his side were thumped 4-1 by Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final last night.

Gwyneth Paltrow named Most Beautiful Woman
New York - People magazine has named Gwyneth Paltrow as the World's Most Beautiful Woman for 2013.
The 40-year-old actress tops the magazine's annual list of the "World's Most Beautiful," announced on Wednesday. This comes just a week after Paltrow received the title of most hated celebrity in Star magazine's annual poll of the 20 most irritating personalities in film, music and television.
Other women who've made People Magazine's most Beautiful list include Kerry Washington, Zooey Deschanel, Amanda Seyfried, Jane Fonda, Jennifer Lawrence, Kelly Rowland, Halle Berry, Drew Barrymore and Pink.
Commenting on her selection, Paltrow says: "Around the house, I'm in jeans and a T-shirt. I don't really wear makeup."
She credits her workout routine for keeping her looking young and feeling strong.
Paltrow is married to Coldplay rocker Chris Martin. They have two children, Apple, 8, and Moses, 7.
Jackson family claim fake Michael used
Los Angeles - Michael Jackson's family claim AEG Live hired a lookalike to promote his final shows.
The singer's family are convinced the concert promoter - who they are suing for $40 billion damages in a wrongful death lawsuit - hired a body double to appear in public and promote the ailing star's This Is It residency at The O2 in London in the run up to his death in June 2009.
A source told The Daily Star newspaper: "Paris and Prince and their grandmother believe a fake Michael was involved. They have hired detectives to track him down."
Michael's mother Katherine Jackson, as well as his children Paris, 15, and Prince Michael, 16, believe the double was used at The O2 arena when his concert dates were first announced in 2009.
'The walk is cockier'
They also think the imposter featured in video clips showing the late King of Pop rehearsing for his farewell tour, claiming Michael was not fit enough to execute the dance moves.
The Jacksons are embroiled in a legal battle against AEG Live, who they claim "negligently" hired doctor Conrad Murray, the disgraced physician responsible for administering the lethal dose of Propofol which killed the superstar.
They have allegedly hired detectives to find the double and force him to give evidence in court.
Bianca Cobb, a body language expert, told Fox News: "In my opinions, the man in the clips isn't Michel Jackson. The walk is cockier and had more bounce than MJ's typical stride. He tended to walk with his head down."
AEG have denied the claim, while Sony - who released his This Is It movie - insisted: "Every frame is undeniably Michael."
Kim Kardashian 'ready' for childbirth
New York - Kim Kardashian says she's gotten more used to pregnancy, is more comfortable in her skin and is no longer feeling the aches and pains of expectant motherhood.
"Now I think I'm past all the awkward phases and stages, and once you feel the baby kick it's a whole new experience," Kardashian said on Monday while attending the E! Network Upfront in New York.
"I finally really embrace it. I love it now, but it took a minute. It was a lot, you know, a lot of body changes and stuff."
The reality TV star has received a lot of scrutiny over how she's chosen to dress her baby bump. For a while she avoided maternity clothes, wearing see-through tops and leather pants. The 32-year-old also opted to still wear designer clothing but in larger sizes that maybe weren't meant for an expectant woman.
'I'm really not worried'
Kardashian says she's not only feeling better but is pretty calm about giving birth and isn't nervous.
"At the beginning that was what I feared the most, and now, I mean, it's inevitable," she said. "It's gonna happen. I'm really not worried or nervous."
Kardashian and her baby's father, rapper Kanye West, know the gender of their child but are keeping it a secret. She said she's careful when she goes shopping to not give anything away.
"We buy all white," she said, laughing. "Or we'll go and buy both (girls' and boys' clothing), and then no one will know."
Besides Kardashian's belly, the cast of Keeping up with the Kardashians is getting bigger. The upcoming eighth season will include stepdad Bruce Jenner's sons, Brandon and Brody Jenner, along with Brandon's wife, Leah Jenner.
Brandon and Brody Jenner's mom is actress Linda Thompson, who was engaged to Elvis Presley.
Kardashian said it only makes sense to feature her step-brothers on the show.
"Our parents got married when I was 10 years old so people don't see that side of our lives," she said, "but they've been in our lives for so long so it's fun to share that with everyone."

N Korea test: Radioactive traces found
Vienna - Possible radioactive traces from North Korea's February nuclear test have been detected for the first time, although it remains unclear what fissile material Pyongyang used, monitoring organisation CTBTO said on Tuesday.
"The ratio of the detected xenon isotopes [xenon-131m and xenon-133] is consistent with a nuclear fission event occurring more than 50 days before the detection," the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) said.
"This coincides very well with announced nuclear test by the DPRK [North Korea] that occurred on 12 February 2013, 55 days before the measurement."
It added however that the discovery by a monitoring station in Japan could not help it answer the key question of whether Pyongyang used plutonium or uranium in the blast.
North Korea used plutonium in its 2006 and 2009 tests and any discovery that it used highly enriched uranium for its third test would mark a significant technological step for the impoverished and unpredictable regime in Pyongyang.
It would also raise international concerns that North Korea might pass on weapons-grade uranium, or the necessary technology and knowhow to make it, to other "rogue states" or "terrorists" seeking to make crude nuclear explosive devices.
It is also possible that the so-called radionuclides were from a nuclear reactor or other atomic activity, and the CTBTO said it is currently examining the traces to see whether this is the case.
It ruled out however that the source was Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear plant.
The detection was made at Takasaki, Japan, 1 000km from the North Korean test site. Lower levels were picked up at Ussuriysk, Russia, one of several hundred sites worldwide reporting to the CTBTO.
Reese Witherspoon's arrest won't hurt image
Los Angele - Reese Witherspoon's professional image is so squeaky clean that she got laughs on a late-night show earlier this year for pretending to buy bottles of cognac and tequila.
Her recent arrest and admission that she "clearly had one drink too many" could be more damaging to her brand than it might be for someone with a less-wholesome image, experts say, but because she apologised quickly and sincerely, her career is likely to fare just fine.
"Reese Witherspoon has become successful by positioning herself as America's sweetheart - a likable, friendly, non-threatening star - and this fundamentally disrupts that image," said branding expert Dorie Clark, author of Reinventing You.
"It's far worse for Reese Witherspoon to be arrested (image-wise) than it would be for Lindsay Lohan. (...) I think (Witherspoon) understands the severity of the situation and that's why she issued the apology so quickly."
'I am deeply embarrassed'
The 37-year-old Oscar winner was arrested in Atlanta after a state trooper said she wouldn't stay in the car while her husband, Hollywood agent Jim Toth, was arrested and accused of driving under the influence of alcohol.
"Do you know my name?" Witherspoon is quoted as saying in the trooper's report of the early Friday incident. She also said: "You're about to find out who I am" and "You're about to be on national news," according to Trooper First Class J Pyland.
Witherspoon apologised shortly after news of the arrests broke on Sunday and attended a New York screening of her new film, Mud, that night as scheduled.
"I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said," she said in a statement.
"It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse.
"I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behaviour."
'It's not a game changer'
Her publicist, Meredith O'Sullivan Wasson, declined comment on Monday.
Longtime Hollywood publicist Michael Levine said Witherspoon's timely apology helps mitigate any lasting damage to her image, saying she, "quickly removed the poison from her system".
Veteran publicist and vice chairman of Reputation.com Howard Bragman agreed.
"This is a speed bump, not a sinkhole," he said. "She made a mistake, she apologised. She didn't even have the DUI; it was her husband. Is it embarrassing? Yeah, a little bit. But it's not a game changer in terms of her career."
Witherspoon won an Academy Award for playing June Carter Cash in 2005's Walk the Line. She married Toth, an agent at CAA, in 2011. They have a baby son, Tennessee, who was born in September of 2012.
Bragman suspects the municipal charges against the actress will be dropped. She has a court date set for 22 May. Toth's case is set to be heard 23 May.

Reese Witherspoon arrested - report
Los Angeles - Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon was arrested for disorderly conduct in the US state of Georgia after authorities detained her husband for drunk driving, US media reported on Sunday.
While cops questioned her husband Jim Toth after seeing the couple's car swerving early on Friday, the actress allegedly did not make any new friends.
Entertainment news website TMZ reported she started acting up, asking "Do you know my name?"
An officer answered by saying, "No, I don't need to know your name," to which the 37-year-old reportedly shot back: "You're about to find out who I am (...) You are going to be on national news."
Booked and released
Witherspoon, one of Hollywood's highest paid stars with a reputation as being something of a straight arrow, also became "verbal" and "ornery" at the amount of time police were taking with her husband, according to TMZ.
Both the actress, famous for her huge Legally Blonde hits, and her spouse were taken to jail, booked and released, TMZ said.
Witherspoon, in Georgia to film a new movie, won the best actress Academy Award for 2005's Walk the Line.
Justin Bieber tweets, deletes Selena pic
Los Angeles - Justin Bieber has sparked rumours that he's back together with Selena Gomez after tweeting a photo of them together on Sunday and then quickly deleting it.
This comes just days after the pair was spotted kissing in Oslo on Thursday night.
Selena flew to Norway earlier in the week to see the Baby hitmaker, who is currently on tour, and friends believe they are back together following their affectionate display.
A source told People: "They were holding hands, hugging and they kissed on the lips. They looked really in love, like no fights ever happened before. It definitely looked like they were back together."
Pals recently insisted that despite their on/off relationship, the pair - who split late last year - can't stay away from each other and have an intense connection.
'Crazy connection'
A source said: "They have a crazy connection. They just can't seem to break their connection. It can be intense."
The reported reconciliation comes not long after it was reported Selena had asked Paramount Pictures to remove her from Justin's sequel to his Never Say Never concert film, for fear it could be edited to make her look bad.
A source said: "There are plenty of scenes where she's yelling at him, which, if edited, would make her look bad.
"Selena is desperately worried he'll try to exact some sort of revenge on screen."
No more X Factor for Khloe Kardashian
Los Angeles - Reality TV star Khloe Kardashian will not be returning to The X Factor after just one season as co-host of the TV talent show.
Fox television on Monday announced that presenter and actor Mario Lopez would return for a second season but the statement made no mention of Kardashian.
An X Factor spokesperson said Kardashian, 28, who with her California socialite sisters Kim and Kourtney rose to fame in Keeping Up With the Kardashians, would not be returning when the US version of the singing competition returns in September.
Not asked to renew contract
"We really enjoyed working with her and wish her all the best in the future," the spokesperson said.
Kardashian, one of the most popular faces on US television, was brought in by X Factor creator Simon Cowell last year as part of a revamp that included the hiring of singers Britney Spears and Demi Lovato as judges after a disappointing first season in 2011.
A source close to the show said Kardashian, who had no previous experience as a TV host, was not asked to renew her contract.
Spears quit after one season and her replacement has yet to be named but Lovato will be back in September.
'Mario is a pro'
Kardashian married basketball player Lamar Odom in 2009, and the pair got their own spinoff show.
She has more than 8 million followers on Twitter and has been in the news for several months over the couple's efforts to have a baby.
Lopez, a former actor, is the co-host of entertainment magazine show Extra and radio show On with Mario Lopez. He is also an author of several fitness books.
"I'm thrilled Mario is back for Season Three of The X Factor," Cowell said in a statement. "Hosting a live show and keeping the judges - especially Demi - in line, is not an easy job, but Mario is a pro and we are glad he's coming back."
PSY's Gentleman hits 200 million mark
Seoul - Gangnam Style star PSY's new music video has garnered 200 million views on YouTube in the nine days since its release and smashed the video-sharing site's record for single-day hits.
The video of Gentleman - the much-anticipated follow-up to the South Korean singer's global hit - reached the 200-million milestone on Monday after its 13 April debut, YouTube said in a statement.
"From a stats perspective, it's one of the biggest music video launches the web has ever seen," the statement said.
The video recorded 38.4 million views on 14 April, destroying the previous single-day record of 31 million views set by KONY 2012 - a documentary about a Ugandan warlord made by the charity group Invisible Children.
It was the video of Gangnam Style, and in particular PSY's signature horse-riding dance, that pushed him to global stardom after it was posted on YouTube and turned into a viral sensation.
Billboard Music Awards
A satire on the luxury lifestyle of Seoul's upscale Gangnam district, it has become the most-watched YouTube video of all time, registering more than 1.5 billion views since it debuted last July.
The Gentleman video shows PSY, wearing his signature shades, performing his new hip-swinging dance at various locations in and around Seoul including a high-end clothing store, restaurant and a swimming pool.
The storyline features the 35-year-old singer playing pranks on women such as pulling their chairs away or untying a woman's bikini top at a swimming pool.
The new dance song was ranked on Tuesday in the top 10 on iTunes music stores in a number of countries including Britain and Canada and 12th on the US Billboard's Hot 100 music chart.
It also helped earn PSY six nominations for the 2013 Billboard Music Awards to be held in Las Vegas in May, including top dance song, top streaming song and top new artist.

Jennifer Aniston: No wedding dress yet
Los Angeles - Jennifer Aniston hasn't chosen her wedding dress yet.
The 44-year-old actress has been busy producing her upcoming movie Call Me Crazy: A Five Film and has had to put all planning for her nuptials to fiancé Justin Theroux, 41, on hold.
The former Friends star admits organising her big day - which is rumoured to be taking place in May - might make her "crazy" because she has got so much to do.
When asked if she had picked her gown at the premiere of Call Me Crazy: A Five Film at the Pacific Design Centre in West Hollywood on Tuesday night, she said: "No, no, no."
Stigma that needs to be addressed
As Jennifer's hectic schedule begins to build, she has handed the mundane task of house hunting over to her beau. The pair are reportedly setting up a love nest in New York City.
Although it has been taking up so much of her time, Jennifer is proud to have worked on Call Me Crazy - a compilation of five short films focusing on mental illness.
The screen beauty insists the project tackles a subject that suffers from a negative perception and stigma that needs to be addressed.
She said: "Mental illness seemed to be [a topic] that a lot of us felt was an important one and touched a lot of our lives, a lot of our families lives. That seemed like one that needed attention because all of the stigma around it and the sort of shame around it."
Call Me Crazy premieres on Lifetime on April 20.
New York launches Mandela art event
New York - The public is invited to share their own inspirational quotes at a Times Square event tied to a video installation of Nelson Mandela's speeches.
Organisers say the leader's grandsons, Kweku and Ndaba Mandela, will attend the late-night event in New York City. It starts at 23:15 on Friday.
It's an audience-participation moment for a 3-minute video that's being shown all month, just before midnight.
People can write down their quotes. Then they can share the quotes with other participants or donate them to a digital gallery called Midnight Moment.
Mandela was South Africa's first black president from 1994 to 1999. He turns 95 in July.
The project is a collaboration of Times Square Arts, the Tribeca Film Institute and the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Kim K's 4X Larger Chest Spills Out Of Sports Bra
Kim Kardashian's curves are growing to ample proportions as her pregnancy furthers, but it seems the reality star is in need of a new sports bra. Kim was photographed leaving a workout session wearing all black, but her now size G breasts were spilling from all angles of her top.
On Valentine's Day, Kim covered up her massive chest with a long sleeved white shirt, but the clinging material outlined Kim's eye-popping figure. A source weighed in on Kim's changing body, saying "She's gone from a 36D to 36G and is wearing sports bras daily."Kim loves her curves, but she's upset that nothing in her wardrobe fits her any more."
